One of the biggest pet peeves that I have is long hair on boys. I know I am a total traitor to my generation and all, but long hair on boys drives my nuts. Even a little shaggy makes me a little crazy. So to keep up with the fast growing hair of my boys (and it does grow fast) I got real cheap real quick and I have been cutting it myself for years.
It never stops amusing me though. It never fails that right when the clippers go on, that's when either the nose starts running or like in this case, the tounge just comes out. It never fails we end up with a slobbery beard stuck to his face.
Just thought I'd throw in a before and after pictures. Why, you may ask....because I never get sick of cute pictures of my kids that's why.
I mean C'mon!! How cute is this kid?!!

And so it begins...

Well we knew it would happen it would just take a matter of time. Sunshine loves to play the wii. Of course it didn't hurt that I got myself a pink controller. Guess which one she went for? My husband has a game that has horses in it and she LOOOOVES horses. So natuarally thats the game she loves. There's no escaping it in this family :)

She flies through the air with the greatest of ease.....
So Sunshine has some sort of death wish and always has. But what is weird is that she is like a cat...she always seems to land on her feet and she has 9 lives. Plus if she can fit her head in something, then she can fit her whole body, but thats something for a different post.
She has always had the strangest ability to walk on the backs of couches (with her eyes closed sometimes) and never loose her balance. So after a while, it stopped freaking me out and I stopped worrying that she was going to fall and break her neck. Most other people that are not used to her gasp and give me dirty looks like "are you just going to let her do that? She could fall and hurt herself" But once they are around her long enough...they get it too.
Here is just a small sample of her death defying feats. Note she refuses to just sit on a swing. Instead she insists on standing on it and they going as high as humanly possible without flipping the swing set and just to add a little more danger....she closes her eyes. I keep expecting her to request that I light her on fire or hand cuff her to the pole or something.

The importance of being centered
So Bug is really into the Nickelodeon show "Avatar". Which in all honesty, my husband and I have gotten into it too. It actually has a pretty good storyline that can hold our attention. Which says a lot :)
The story is about a little boy that was sent to save the world (Sound familiar? It's only like in every good story; that scenario) But it sort of has an Asian "type" flare where the boy has to meditate and "center" himself.
So the other day Bug and I were at odds most of the day. With school being out and the weather being so nasty, we are all just stuck in the house and in each other's space so it seems. All of our daily routines are all out of whack. So he was bickering about something and I sent him to his room to get a hold on his attitude. He kept yelling down the stairs "I'm going to go and get centered". I was like "yeah you do that and don't come out until you have a better attitude."
So about an hour goes by and I realize he's been up there for a while. So I creep up the stairs and look around the corner (because frankly I was expecting to see him asleep on his bed) But this is what I walk into. So I don't say a word....I do what any "blog obsessed mother" would do....I run and grab the camera before he realizes that I had seen him.
What is equally cute in this is that he even took the time to lay out the Lego's in a pattern around him. Not sure what that's about, but my guess is that's what he saw them do on TV. Either way, as soon as he saw me, the spell was broken and he hopped up and asked if he could come down stairs. Once down stairs, I asked him what he was doing while he was sitting all quiet up there. His response...."Thinking quiet thoughts so that me and God can hear each other better." Good answer.

Scrubs - Musical Poop Song
Ok so if you know me...you know I have a freakish love of musical theater. But I also love me some Scrubs. (One of the funniest show on TV)
So this is pretty much right up my alley. (No pun intended)
It's from a couple seasons back, but classic none the less.

Playing hostage?
So I see Sunshine out of thew corner of my eye attempting to navigate her way through the dining room while blindfolding herself with her own belt. Completely unsure if I should even ask...I push ahead and ask anyway.
Me-"what on Earth are you doing?"
Sunshine-"cooking."
Me-"???!!"
Sunshine-"And people make me do stuff but they don't let me see so I can get home"
Me-"what? Who is not letting you see?"
Sunshine-"The bad guys that talk funny."
Me-(so at this point my mind is going in all sorts of weird places because at this moment I realize that maybe she has somehow been exposed to some bit of TV or news footage involving a hostage scene or something. We are really careful about what they see, but sometimes you can't put them in a complete bubble.....wait why would she be taken hostage and then be forced to cook?)
Me-"why are they making you cook?"
Sunshine-"Because I am a chef. I have a rat under my hat that is the real cook."
Me- "OOOOOHHH!!!! Like in Ratatouille!!!! Now it all makes sense!!"
**Note if you have not seen this movie, it has a scene in it where the main character keeps a rat under his chef hat and blindfolds himself so that the rat can be the real cook. It really doesn't make any sense when I explain it I know, but go see the movie. It's cute.
I mean I know my daughter is very imaginative and reenacts all sorts of scenes from movies. I for the life of me could not figure out what was going on here. I do however think it's funny that my mind goes to the worst case scenario and begin pondering how my little Sunshine is going to need years of therapy to undo all the damage I've done by carelessly letting her watch whatever is on. Well good. Just a Disney movie. Crisis averted....for now.

update...
So I just had to add this as a side note/update. Bug was just watching himself on the video I took and he was totally picking it apart and critiquing himself.
Bug-"oh man! I wasn't loud enough"
"I missed my mark and came in too late"
"Sunshine and Peanut are playing in the background and making too much noise. We need to do it over to get it just right."
Me- "yeah I think it's just fine nobody will really care."
Bug-"see what we need is a fog machine....."
LOL!!!!

He's made mostly of Awesome!!!
So Bug is going through this thing where he is really getting into music. Not only listening to it, but preforming as well. It goes without saying that he listens to the music that we listen to. Because naturally we have awesome taste in music and pride ourselves on being music snobs. It just is what it is...get over it. So my husband loads up his MP3 player with the best music has to offer. Think of it like our own school of rock.
We have strict rules in this house. Classic rock is strictly respected and newer rock must be truly extraordinary to be taken seriously. No top 40 is ever allowed in our house. (Although sometimes I listen in the car...by myself...with the windows up...in shame) Like I said , we are total snobs. We're pretty zen with it, so whatever.
Anyway, back to Bug, so he's rocking out with his MP3 player, singing along and doing some fierce "air guitar". When I see him scan the room frantically. Then he finds himself a little plastic guitar. (Which by the way used to be mine when I was little. If you look closely, you'll see a rocking picture of Shaun Cassidy on the front and all the strings got broken sometime around 1978 so it doesn't even work, but for whatever reason the kids love it) He grabs his guitar, kicks stuff off a footstool, hops up and voila....a mini concert.
Whats also funny about this is he singing a "White Stripes " song called "Seven Nation Army". But he insists on calling it the "Salvation Army". We have tried to set him straight, but what can you do?
He cracks me up. Also note the shout out to God when he's done. He's totally ready for Rock stardom.

"Doctor, Doctor, ...it only hurts when I do this...."
This is what happens when you give an extreme animal lover a Doctor's kit for Christmas. I knew it would only be a matter of time before she was giving "jorge" the giraffe CPR.
....Well she checked all his vitals....it was his only option. It was touch and go for a while, but she pulled him through. She is the best in her field.............
So I says Doctor, doctor...I think I'm going crazy....one minute I think I'm a tee pee....the next I think I'm a wigwam. The Doctor says your problem here is you're too tents (tense)
.....wakka wakka.....

Beach pictures!!
So I realize it would take far too long to explain all of these pictures from our grand getaway.(That and frankly, who cares except those involved, but luckily those involved read this blog.) But instead I thought maybe someone might be interested in a slideshow. However if you are not, now would be an excellent time to check out. I wouldn't hold it against you. Although if you have been reading my blog thus far , you are aware of my complete narcissism and my need to show the world just all the super cute things my kids do on a daily basis. So get over it.
Having said that....I will give a couple descriptions....The ones that look like we were bowling in the living room are actually us playing our new Wii. For the 3 people on planet Earth that don't know what that is, it's an interactive video game system that makes you move around as if you were actually playing the sport. It's really fun......Also, there is one of Peanut where it looks like he is strapped to a chair. Well that is pretty much what is going on there. Our house came with a lot of things, but a high chair was not one of them. So we improvised. It worked just fine. It's just a little ghetto.
Enjoy!
