Riddle me this....
We have a 20,000 gallon pool to play in. Why is it they choose to play in a Rubbermaid container filled with water instead?

4th of July weekend
Last weekend was 4th of July and my Mom and I decided to nab Sunshine and have us a girls weekend getaway. We had been reading about some really cool events going on up in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. So we felt we needed to investigate. You see my mom and I are newly obsessed with this magazine called "MaryJanes farm". Check her out here. She is awesome beyond all belief. She teaches us how to make most everything from scratch, grow our own everything and do it all in a nifty apron. She is based out of Moscow, Idaho but was opening her second store in Coeur d"Alene. She was having a big grand opening and would be there to sign copies of her newest book. Naturally like obsessed groupies we had to find a way to get there.
My mom has a cute little travel trailer that we all would fit comfortably in, so we loaded up the cooler with what we had on hand and away we went. We stayed the first night in Umatilla up the Gorge and the other 2 nights we stayed in Spokane, Wa.
We had a great time camping and just goofing around. We got to meet MaryJane and had a wonderful time in Coeur d'Alene. We enjoyed the 4th of July parade and festivities on the lake all day. We swam and played in the park , and the fireworks over the lake were incredible.
It was a lot of fun with my mom and daughter just hanging out being silly girls. Something we don't get to do often enough but I think we need to make this an annual thing for the 4th of July.

Oh the glorious days of summer
I love summer. Maybe I have mentioned this a time or two. Living in a place where it rains 75% of the year is really fighting my nature. But for now it's where we live and we make the best of it. We basically enjoy every last drop of of summer that we possibly can.
Our days are filled with a whole lot of nothing much but we enjoy every second.
Bug spent his day yesterday having "backpack expeditions" across the street in our field. He and his friends packed their backpacks with their toy compasses and water bottles and hit the trail. I could hear them playing and it was just refreshing to see them completely wrapped up in their own world of imagination. He had a lot of fun.
Then Sunshine spend the majority of her day swimming in the pool. By late afternoon she pulled her wrinkly self out and sat on the porch to dry out in the sun.
Seems the nice warm sun has the same effect on her as it does on me :)

Dog days of summer
I don't know how the weather is in you neck of the woods, but it has been scorching hot here the past couple of days. In the 100's. Of course now would be the perfect time for our AC to go on the fritz. Not only is it not blowing cold air, it is also blowing warm air. Keeping our house a nice steady 88 degrees. So we just turned the whole thing off.
Awesome. Thanks for that.
So in short we have a series of about 4000 fans set in strategic spots around the house.
Luckily we have the pool out back. That turned into the best investment ever.Although with it being so hot over several days, even the water is at 90 degrees. I have to stick the hose in to try to cool it off. Something I really didn't think I would do.
But with all this playing in the water it sure gets everyone good and pooped at the end of the day. Sunshine laid herself down here on the deck and took a little siesta with Libby. I love lazy days like this. It's my get out of work card. It's just too darn hot to do anything other than laze about. My house looks like a bomb went off. There is also a permanent wet trail in the carpet from the back door (where the pool is) to the downstairs potty. It never really seems to dry out.
Luckily that carpet is on it's way out, so I don't have to worry about keeping it decent. Like I ever really did? That carpet has been peed on, barfed on and pooped on just about every inch, by just about every living being in the house. It is time for it to go. Look out Pergo...here we come!

What a lovely lazy day
It was another scorching hot day. So we literally spent about 7 hours in the pool today. We would get out just long enough to dry off, re apply sunscreen, maybe grab a glass of water and then hop back in.
My house is a disaster and my laundry is stacked up, but sometimes this is really nice to just spend the day lazing about playing Marco polo with an enormous inflatable turtle. Oh and my kids too.

Are you just a little excited?!
So This is what I came downstairs to this morning. These two parked in front of the TV with their goggles on.
The second my feet hit the last step, the first thing out of their mouth is NOT "good morning" or "beautiful day" or "thank you for giving me life". No, none of that.
"Good you are up. Can we go swimming now?"
Ok let me point out here it has just turned 7:30 am. The sun hasn't even had a chance to warm the water up yet.
They didn't like this reasoning.
But I'm glad to see that they waited until I got downstairs and then asked if they could go out. I was sort of nervous putting a pool out there. Little kids and pools can be a deadly combo. But I laid down serious scare tactics to keep them away from it unless a grownup is near.
I guess it's safe to say, they like the pool :)

Ok we really must do something about this heat.
It was 90 degrees again today. We are all tired of being stuck in the house huddled around the AC. So I took matters into my own hands and bought a pool.
I have been wanting to get one, but our yard isn't very level, so I had to go first go and get 600 lbs of river rock to lay down to make it level and not puncture though the liner.
By the time we got the rocks laid out, and then got the pool assembled, it was almost 3:00. Totally smack dab in the heat of the day. So we began to fill it up, but it is a rather large pool, so it took longer than hoped to fill. After about an hour of filling, we couldn't wait any longer. I don't care if there is only 6 inches of water in there, I'm going in!!! And so we did. We enjoyed that 6 inches of water like you wouldn't believe :)
In the end, it took almost 5 hours to fill it. Just in case you were wondering. Can't wait to get our next water bill :)

Movies in the park
So last night I promised Bug that he and I were going to do something just the two of us. As anyone that has more than one child, it is really hard to find one on one time with each child without there being hard feelings of "why did you take them and not me?" So bug and I sort of had to do some sneaking around so that Sunshine wouldn't feel left out.
We went to a movie in the park. It is something that community services are putting up all over around here. It is a giant inflatable movie screen . Much like a drive in screen. They set up in parks or in this case in an elementary school field. Bug and I just brought our lawn chairs, some blankets and a flashlight and set up. The movie started at dusk, which for us was about 9:30. We got there pretty early, so Bug found other kids to play with instantly and took off for the playground. That left me in total solitude. Luckily I brought a book. It was fantastic. I got to read a book (without pictures) without interruption for well over an hour while sitting in the setting sun. It was really nice.
The movie they showed was "Bee movie". It is always a family friendly movie. We had a really nice time. Although it was a bit nippy. Next time we need to pack more blankets.
We will be seeking these out and going to these as often as we can.
Oh and did I mention the entire thing was free? I guess that goes without saying.
