Scott Baio gave us pink eye.

Ok I realize about 2% of my reading audience actually gets that. If you don't. Well ok, it's a reference to a South Park episode. Let's just leave it at that. I also realize that the other 98% of you wouldn't watch that show for all the tea in China. And thats fine too.

Along with all the medical ailments that has plagued our house in the past several days. This one is the most annoying. Peanut somehow managed to get pink eye in both eyes a couple days ago. Luckily we were at the hospital already so we just had them write out an Rx while we were there to kill two birds with one stone. (Yeah I'm that kind of mom that brings up every ailment in the doctors office that way I don't have to make a separate doctors visit)

Luckily it had only seemed like Peanut was the only one with it. (Which if you have kids, you know something mega contagious like that spreads like wildfire among kids) Then this morning about 2 am, I rolled over to look at the clock. Only to find that I couldn't open one of my eyes.

Fantastic.

Luckily we have plenty of medication for this. I just can't show my face in public for a couple days for fear of public ridicule. So now I have a legit reason for being anti social. Does it get any better than this :)

Update...

We are mostly over our flu. Bug is feeling completely back to his ornery self. Sunshine never got any of it and Peanut just ran a little fever and that was it. My husband and I are still sick and sleep deprived, but this is what we signed on for when we had kids, so here we are.

The kids really aren't all that sympathetic with us still being sick. Now that they feel better they have boundless energy and are ready to get up and go. Peanut was up at 5:30 this morning ready for breakfast. Naturally, if one is up, then all of them are up. It's just the nature of the beast. So needless to say I'm feeling a little grumpy this morning.

I'm debating whether or not I will go to church this morning. There is always an uprising with the kids when they miss Sunday school. They are mad about it until about Wednesday. They really like Sunday school. I just don't feel like going though. Would it be wrong to drop the kids off and then come back home to go to bed? :)

I kid! Come on!!

Barf-a-rama ** Not for the faint of heart!!

So I was awoken at 2 am this morning to ..."mommy, I don't feel very good." I rolled over, saw Bug and before I could really open both eyes, heard .."I think I might BBLAHHHTTT." All over me and my side of the bed. Ahh the joys of motherhood!

So after several episodes , we got him settled and back in bed. Then I had to clean up the mess and go back to bed myself. It's unpleasant on it's own, but it was really getting to me. Much more than usual. Then it hit me..."Oh NO!! I'm going to barf!!"

Somewhere along the way we all picked up a flu bug that hit all of us. luckily, Sunshine and Peanut spent the night at Grandma and Grandpa's. So they were gone. But in the end, I ended up sleeping the rest of the night in Sunshine's bed and my husband spent the night on the couch. I am really grateful that they were gone because once the baby gets woken up in the night, he's up. So really it was better that they were gone.

We've just been sort of crawling thought our day today. Sunshine and Peanut came home and we've just been sort of taking turns wrangling kids. i really didn't want Sunshine and Peanut to come home and pick this up, but nobody really could watch them.

Right now I'm off to give a newly feverish Peanut a bath to calm him down. We are all just achy and running a fever. No fun for anyone!

Sick babies are RAD!!!

This has been my day thus far.....

Good times!

Measles shmeasles....

So this past 3 or 4 days Peanut has been running a pretty good fever. He's been working on some teeth and I just figured thats all it was. Then my mom came over and said "he's just not himself" I agreed, but figured it would pass. Then she says "it looks like he has the measles". My response..."NO!!!! He's been vaccinated! Plus he doesn't have any symptoms of anything. He's just cutting teeth. Don't be such a panicky mom!!!"
So a couple days go by and it's more of the same. Fever...sleeping constantly. Then it happens....I go to get him dressed and there they are. He's covered in a rash. Sure enough. She knew. I took him in and he was diagnosed with what they call "baby measles". They aren't like the normal ones. They aren't contagious and they just sort of run their course on their own. Although he did also have a double ear infection on top of that too. poor kid. He totally gets the fuzzy end of the lollipop when it comes to illness.
In the past week he has perfected the glassy eyed stare. It's so pitiful when babies are sick. They are just so sad looking. he sat on the couch in this same spot and watched CNN for almost 30 minutes. That would have bored any other kid after about 30 seconds. He was just so sick he didn't care. I got him some antibiotics for his ears. That should make him feel better.

Feeling a little bit better ** Please note that these pictures were from last year!!

****DISCLAIMER***** PEANUT IS FINE. THESE PICTURES ARE OLD!!!! THESE ARE FROM LAST YEAR!!!!

I realized after I posted this that someone was just going to look at the pictures and freak out without reading this post. Not in the hospital again. Repeat....He is NOT in the hospital!!!

Peanut is feeling a little bit better. His cold symptoms are almost gone. But the asthma attacks just keep hanging on. I have emergency medication I keep on hand for this very occasion, so I'm pretty skilled in handling this.

Last year from the day he was born until his 1st birthday we accumulated 9 visits to the emergency room and a total of 8 days in a specialized pediatric ICU. Hooked up to breathing ventilators and feeding tubes. His first visit to the PICU was at 25 days old. It was really scary. I took a couple pictures while he was up there just to remind me how REAL it really was, because at the time it felt very surreal.

I keep this picture in my bible to remind me to count my blessing and remember gratitude. Sometimes it's easy to get caught in the "drama of the moment" with silly day to day squabbles. When you get faced with life threatening moments regarding your child, nothing else really seems as important. I don't care if my cable bill gets paid on time or my laundry sat wet in the washer overnight. Nothing is quite as important as making the most of my time with my kids and husband and truly appreciating them.

Of course I say that as I have my back turned to a giant pile of dishes and about 75 loads of laundry that still needs to be folded and put away :) Tonight I am going to ignore that stuff and play with my kids.

Poor little Peanut...

My poor little Peanut has asthma and even the smallest twinge of a cold sends his lungs into overdrive. He was a little sniffely last night, but because it was Halloween and all I didn't let it spoil the night. But we all paid for it today. Poor Peanut had been wheezing all day. I have been giving him breathing treatments every 4 hours all day. Then I gave him some cold medicine to hopefully let him sleep it off. He's a sad little camper though. When he gets grumpy, he cries and when he cries he gets worked up, and when he gets worked up it sends him into an asthma attack. It's sort of a vicious cycle.
So if you're the praying type, I just ask that his little lungs heal fast so that he can get back to laughing and playing like he normally does. He's a little trooper. He's so used to these breathing treatments, he doesn't even fight them anymore. I'll keep you all updated on how he is tomorrow.

Who liknks to me? Ask me how....just kidding. Just click here.
